Oscar winner Natalie Portman and her choreographer fiancé Benjamin Millepied celebrated the birth of their child – a son, on Tuesday.

This is the first child for Portman, 30, and while she will obviously be ecstatic over the birth, she will also no doubt be relieved, since she was experiencing pregnancy pains. “My back is not feeling great right now, sitting for so long,” she told Access Hollywood when she was promoting Your Highness in New York City. “But everything’s really great otherwise.”

However, Portman has her work cut out for her – she hasn’t bought anything for the newborn yet, saying she stuck to tradition when it came to births. “I think it’s a Jewish thing to be kind of superstitious,” she said. “You don’t do any of the baby stuff before the baby arrives.” Speaking about motherhood, she admitted, “I'm sure I'll make lots of mistakes, but I'm open to learning.”

The couple has not revealed the baby’s name, but Portman said she would not be naming the child after the coveted award she won earlier this year. “Would it be too crazy to think you might name your baby Oscar?” a reporter had asked backstage at the Academy Awards in February. “I think that’s probably, definitely out of the question, yeah,” Portman said, laughing.

Portman and Millepied, 33, met on the sets of Black Swan, for which Millepied was the choreographer and played the role of Portman's dancing partner. They have not made public when or where they plan to exchange vows.
