Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are calling it quits after 11 years together.
Watts and Schreiber announced their split in a statement yesterday. Although the two never married, they have been partners for more than 10 years and have two sons together – 9-year-old Alexander “Sasha” Pete and 7-year-old Samuel “Sammy” Kai.
“Over the past few months we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple,” the couple said in a statement. “It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship.”
The statement continued, “While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy.”
According to insiders, the two have been headed towards a separation for some time, but that they’ll remain close friends and co-parents. As they have done as a couple, Watts and Schreiber plan to split their time between New York City and Los Angeles, raising their children together.
“It’s been a long time coming,” the source told E! News. “They’ll still be good friends and co-parents.”
Watts and Schreiber had been together since 2005.
