Brady went on an awkward ‘double date’ with wives Robyn and Nonie while Rosemary was dealt a blow when none of her family comes to their 4th of July part on TLC’s My Five Wives.

While Rhonda worries that her youngest son, Nick, is showing signs of juvenile diabetes when he is overly fussy and runs a fever. Diabetes runs in Rhonda’s family, so she asks Brady to take him to the doctor’s for a blood test. Brady takes him to the doctor’s office and then, to reward Nick for a job well done, he takes him out for ice cream – a decision Rhonda later yells at him for. Later in the episode, Nick’s doctor calls with the news that his blood sugar levels were completely normal and Nick’s fever drops.

At their weekly family meeting, Brady announces that he is in the process of landing a huge project that could allow all the wives to quit their jobs and stay at home with the kids, if they choose to do so. Rhonda, who has been working a lot, feels like the comment is aimed at her, and she resents Brady for constantly trying to get her to quit her job. However, after Nick’s health scare, Rhonda decides to give in and quit her job to be at home with the kids.

After quickly touching on next week’s double date (threesome? Triple date?), Robyn says she would love to have a party for the Fourth of July. Ever since leaving the Mormon Church, the wives have felt shunned by their community, and even their close family. Rosemary, in particular, misses her polygamist family of origin – 29 siblings and three mothers. In a bit of an awkward move, Brady tells Rosemary not to get her hopes up, saying he doubts anyone from Rose’s family will come. Rhonda also struggles with inviting her family to the party. Both she and Robyn feel like their families are a bit more closed off with them since they have left the Church.

The wives draw straws to see who will go on the double date with Brady and what activity they will partake in. Royn and Nonie decide on horseback riding, but Brady isn’t enthusiastic and the group settles on zip lining instead. Robyn is afraid of heights, but is finally able to take the plunge, followed by Nonie and Brady.

At the Fourth of July party, the wives wait anxiously to see which family members will show up. Robyn, Rhonda, Paulie and Nonie are thrilled when their families attend, but Rosemary is clearly upset when her family is noticeably absent. She puts on a brave face, saying that Brady, her sister wives and her children are her family now.
