Muni Long Performs At NOLA’s Essence Festival Of Culture
Singer Muni Long performed at the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans for the first time.
The Grammy winner wore a cropped bejeweled corset with black leather shorts and thigh-high black boots onstage, as she performed her songs.
In a recent interview with Essence, the R&B singer shared that she uses a steamer with ginger to prepare for her performances and expressed her appreciation for New Orleans being a “predominantly Black city,” saying that “everybody feels like a distant cousin” where “you feel warm and taken care of.”
“It’s important for Black people to have safe spaces to go and celebrate each other and fellowship,” she said. “Being in the city of New Orleans, it’s just like a celebration of Blackness and Black people deserve to have more spaces where we can just be ourselves.”
Other performers include Megan Thee Stallion, Janelle Monáe, Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube, Missy Elliot and Wizkid, among others.
The music festival began last Friday and will end today, July 3.
