MTV Cancels 'Buckwild' One Week After Star Shain Gandee’s Death

Buckwild has officially been canceled by MTV, one week after the reality show’s star, Shain Gandee, was found dead in his truck in Sissonville, West Virginia.

“Given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him,” a rep for MTV told TMZ. “Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately.” MTV added that over the weekend they would have a “day of programming dedicated to Shain in which we will air the entire first season of Buckwild.”

Buckwild was currently filming its second season when the tragic news of Gandee’s death broke. The reality show, which was meant to replace The Jersey Shore, followed the lives of a group of young people who lived in the rural town of Sissonville, W.Va. Gandee had been the series’s breakout star.

Gandee’s reported cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. While four-wheeling with his uncle and another man, his Bronco got stuck in the mud, trapping the three men inside.

The show ran into other issues earlier in the year after the show debuted in January. Castmate Salwa Amin was busted for drug possession with the intent to deliver, and Michael Burford was charged with a DUI.
