Hasbro has clarified that the “Mr.” in Mr. Potato Head is staying put, after conservative outcry over the toy’s rebranding.

On Thursday, Hasbro tweeted that the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” potato head characters were not going away, but that the overall branding and logo on the box was being changed to “Potato Head.” The tweet was matched with a picture showing Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head in their respective boxes. The redesigned boxes feature their names at the bottom of the box, with a colorful “Potato Head” logo at the top.

“Hold that Tot – your main spud, MR. POTATO HEAD isn’t going anywhere!” Hasbro’s tweet said. “While it was announced today that the POTATO HEAD brand name & logo are dropping the ‘MR.’ I yam proud to confirm that MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD aren’t going anywhere and will remain MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD.”

The clarifying tweet comes after conservatives took the rebranding as a sign that the toys would totally be scrapped for a new gender free Potato Head. One Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said that Mr. Potato Head was being “neutered,” and conservative author and media personality Mark Dice tweeted that “it’s time for Republican states to secede,” in response to the rebranding news.

The newly designed packaging will be seen on toys starting this fall, and customers will be able to purchase a Mr. Potato Head, Mrs. Potato Head and a Potato Head family. Packaging of the Potato Head family shows that you will be able to create two parent Potato Heads and a baby Potato Head, with enough accessories to make the toys whatever gender you like.
