It’s the worst kept secret in Silicon Valley that Apple has been working on its own electric vehicle in a initiative titled “Project Titan.” Of course, Apple hasn’t made any official announcements. But, it has hired several engineers with experience in the automotive industry, including some Tesla veterans. Furthermore, it has been buying large pieces of land in California, seemingly for automotive testing purposes. On April 13, Motor Trend teased that it had some design insight on the company’s possibly game-changing project.

Even though most people understood that this probably would not be an official prototype, there were hopes that whatever speculative design Motor Trend would present could spark an actual prototype of sketch leak.

The released information did not have anything about Apple’s legitimate plans, to the outrage of many. The piece has been called “just embarrassing” by Wall Street Journal‘s Christopher Mims. It featured illustrations from the staff at Pasadena’s ArtCenter College of Design and was just a general imagining and discussion of what the highly-anticipated vehicle could be.

Kim Reynolds, a testing director at Motor Trend and author of the story, said, “We might be looking at a real transformation of what a car is.”

Still, The Verge admits that their speculations on how Apple could try to differentiate itself from other vehicles, as they have been known for doing, is quite “fascinating.”
