Moo-ve Over – Cow Blocks Highway In England, Causing Major Traffic Jam
A cow that escaped from its farm in Lancashire, England, decided to take a walk on a highway causing a major traffic jam. Drivers that encountered the frightened cow were forced to swerve around it as it was clearly lost and unsure where to go.
Witnesses called the police as the cow was causing significant delays in traffic adding up to two hours in people’s trips according to witnesses.
One family captured the moment on video. In the background, you can hear the family’s concerned reactions to the safety of the animal as it crosses different lanes.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and shut down the motorway as they attempted to capture the cow that had escaped from the nearby farm RJ Cardwell.
A spokesperson for the Lancashire Constabulary shared the news stating, “Please be advised the M55 eastbound is currently closed between junction four and junction three. The road is closed due to reports of animals on the carriageway, and we anticipate this will be closed for some time. Thank you in advance for your patience.”
The owner of the farm, Richard Cardwell, apologized on Facebook for the incident. “Sorry for any inconvenience as they were my cows but the cows shouldn’t of been on the field where they were,” he stated. “I’d put wooden rails across the access to public footpath in case cattle happened to get into that field and only checked recently.”
When he went to check on his cows, he saw that the rails “had all been smashed off and thrown into a field.” He ended his statement by saying, “I’d just like to thank police and others that helped and thankfully no one hurt and no property damaged.”
