‘Modern Family’ Season 7 Episode 16: The Dunphy Parents Are Caught In Lies

Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) get caught in a tangled web of lies to each other.

Phil met a nice attractive woman at a coffee shop looking for a house. He comes outside with their coffees and Claire notices a name and number on his cup for Angie.

His defense mechanism is to lie and tell Claire that Angie is an old overweight Irish woman.

Manny (Rico Rodriguez) created an online podcast for Jay (Ed O’Neill) called “Jay Talking” where he can rant online instead of talking to everyone in the house. Gloria (Sofia Vergara) loves it because everyone can see what it’s like to live with Jay.

Jay is angry about criticism in the comments of his podcast. He calls Alex (Ariel Winter) to ask if she has any computer friends who can track down this consistent negative persona. Jay brings Manny to the man’s house and finds out that it is an old rival from the closet business. They try to fight but after about 20 seconds later they’re sitting down out of breath.

Luke (Nolan Gould) video chats with Alex at college asking to talk. He randomly asks her a question about Watergate, prompting her to write his essay.

Gloria confides in Claire and tells her that she thinks her yoga instructor is flirting with her. Claire joins Gloria in a class to see for herself. Ironically Claire ends up getting all the attention from the teacher and now Gloria feels left out.

Claire tells Gloria that she’s so used to being the center of attention that she’s probably jealous. Claire loves the attention and starts going to regular classes.

Claire lies to Phil when describing her fit, young, male yoga teacher too. Except she completely lies and tells him her instructor is an old female.

Cam (Eric Stonestreet) is trying to force Lily into riding a bike but she doesn’t want to learn because she’s scared. After Cam falls and breaks his arm, they return to the park a different day. As they look away, she’s already off riding the bike on her own.

Angie asks Phil about the house for sale across the street from his. When he tries to direct her away from it coming up with any excuse, she thinks he doesn’t want her as a neighbor because he’s racist.

He eventually admits to Claire that Angie is beautiful and didn’t want her to get crazy about it.

While Phil and Claire are in the car together, Claire is giving him the silent treatment after finding out the truth. Gloria calls to talk to Claire about how she really was jealous during yoga. She doesn’t just keep it at that, through the speakers of the car Phil finds out that the yoga instructor has been putting his hands all over his wife. They call it even.

New episodes of Modern Family air Wednesday nights at 9/8c p.m. on ABC.
