A volunteer dive group found a body on Sunday night that law enforcement officials believe is missing teen Kiely Rodni.

The group, Adventures With Purpose, stated they used sonar imaging technology to locate the vehicle. It was submerged in “14 feet of water” in Prosser Lake in Northern California — about 35 miles west of Reno, Nevada.

At a Monday news conference, Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon said in a statement, “Last night we did receive some information of the recovery of the vehicle that we’ve been searching for and it was located inside Prosser Lake.”

“It was located within a search zone that we have been searching since the very beginning of our operation.”

The discovery was made near the location where Rodni was most recently based on her cellphone activity.

Rodni, 16, was last seen on August 6 at a high school graduation party at Prosser Family Campground. She was there with “more than 100 juveniles and young adults.”

Authorities had been conducting an “extensive search” for almost three weeks. The water level dropped several feet since they began.

They were trying to find the 2013 Honda CR-V that Rodni was driving at the time.

The missing teen’s family said in a statement on Monday, “We have weathered a storm of unfathomable force, and it is purely thanks to the army of warriors, matriarchs, healers, and helpers holding us up that we continue to stand today.”

They continued, “While we accept this sadness cast under death’s shadow, the rising sun shines light upon us, reminding us not to mourn our loss, but to celebrate Kiely’s spirit and the gift that we all received in knowing her. Kiely will surely remain with us even though we will not get her back.”

The victim has not yet been officially identified and there is an ongoing investigation.
