Miss Puerto Rico Destiny Velez has been suspended from the Miss America pageant after she took to Twitter to rant against Muslims.

Miss Puerto Rico Destiny Velez’s Anti-Muslim Rant

On Thursday, Velez came across documentary filmmaker Michael Moore‘s post that included a picture of him standing outside of Trump Tower in Manhatten holding up a sign that read, “We Are All Muslim.” The image of Moore, who was protesting Donald Trump‘s call for a ban on Muslim’s entering the United States, angered Velez, who directly tweeted Moore.

“Muslims use our constitution to terrorize USA & plant gas stations,” Velez’s stream of offensive comments began. “All what Muslims have done is provided oil & terrorize this country & many others.”

Velez added, “There’s NO comparison between Jews, Christians & Muslims. Jews nor Christians have terrorizing agendas in their sacred books.”

The official Miss Puerto Rico Organization immediately suspended Velez indefinitely, calling her posts a “contradiction to the organization.”

“Miss Velez’s actions were in contradiction to the organization, and therefore as a consequence of her actions, she has been suspended indefinitely,” the organization’s statement read. “The Miss Puerto Rico Organization will not tolerate any actions or behavior contrary to the Miss Puerto Rico Organization.”

Velez also released a statement through the organization and apologized for causing offense.

“I stand up against bullying. The last thing I wanted to do was to bully anyone,” she said. “I apologize to anyone who felt offended with my words.”
