Miss Piggy And Kermit The Frog Announce Split Ahead Of ‘The Muppets’ Premiere

Muppet couple Miss Piggy and Kermit confirmed the end of their romance on Tuesday ahead of the premiere of their new show.

While in a panel at the Television Critics Association event in Beverly Hills, Calif., Tuesday, Kermit told reporters the sad news about Miss Piggy and him. “It’s a day-by-day, moment-by-moment process,” Kermit shared, explaining, “Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically. “It can be tough to work with your ex,” he added. “There will be an official statement released in the press. I don’t want to betray anything.”

In the official statement, Kermit and Miss Piggy revealed that though they were breaking up and would likely be dating other muppets in the future, their working relationship would go on as usual. “After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship,” their statement said. “We will continue to work together on television and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter…unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding.”

Kermit and Miss Piggy will both be appearing on ABC’s new The Muppets show co-written by Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady and Bob Kushell. “The show’s going to be all about our personal  lives, behind the scenes, our relationships, sort of an adult muppet show,” says Kermit in the first trailer. Another muppet added that it would be shot in “crazy, hand-held, documentary-style and have cut-aways to one-on-one interviews” – not dissimilar to The Office.

The Muppets will air Tuesday nights on ABC at 8/7c starting this fall.
