On Saturday, December 14, Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh was crowned Miss World 2019 at the 69th annual beauty pageant, in London, United Kingdom.
Singh’s triumph occurred days after Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa crowned Miss Universe, marking the first time in history when black women hold the titles of five of the world’s top beauty pageants.

“I think I represent something special, a generation of women that are pushing forward to change the world,” she told the British journalist, Piers Morgan, during the round of questions.
The two runners-up for the crown were Miss France and Miss India. However, Miss Jamaica ended up winning the contests deservedly.
“So honored and grateful for this opportunity but most of all I’m thinking about the work that needs to be done and that I have the platform and the means to do it,” Singh said following her win. “I’m ready to get out there and work. I’m excited!”
