Miners’ ‘Harlem Shake’ Video Gets Them Fired [Video]

Miners in Australia posted a “Harlem Shake” video that caused them to be fired from their jobs.

A total of 15 miners were sacked as a result of the “Harlem Shake” video – eight that participated and several more that watched from the sidelines, according to Australian newspaper The West Australian. Not only were they fired from that specific project at the Agnew Gold Mine, but the six-figure salary earners were also effectively banned from working on any other projects by the Barminco mining company.

“A dismissal letter shows Barminco considered the stunt a safety issue and a breach of its 'core values of safety, integrity and excellence,' " reported The West.

The video in question shows one individual beginning to dance to DJ Baaur’s recent hit, as all the "Harlem Shake" videos do, and he’s soon joined during the song’s heavy bass by a band of miners in various states of undress in a dark muddy mine shaft. One of the dismissed miners performs "the worm" through a puddle.

Much like the Colorado College Frisbee team’s video, the setting that makes it unique is also what’s causing all the trouble. The Frisbee team’s video, which captured the “Harlem Shake” performed on a commercial flight, caught the attention of the FAA, which has launched an investigation regarding safety concerns.

Weeks into the craze, 4,000 videos of "Harlem Shake" variations are still being uploaded onto the Internet daily.
