Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project has had its season episode order increased from 15 to 21.
Kaling took to Twitter Friday to let fans of The Mindy Project know that Fox wanted six more episodes of the comedy series. “We were excited to do 15 episodes this year,” she wrote, “but FOX asked us to do 6 more! so exciting!”
The Mindy Project, which debuted on Fox in 2012, has never been a big hit in the ratings. It averages about 3.1 million viewers per episode and a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, according to Variety.
However, due in part to Kaling’s high-profile, it has something of a cult following, particularly among women. It’s also garnered significant critical acclaim. Former Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly was a big supporter of the show, and its place on the network hasn’t faltered in the network’s rebuilding.
The Mindy Project airs Tuesday nights on Fox at 9:30 p.m. EST.
