Mindy Kaling On B.J. Novak Fatherhood Rumors: ‘It Doesn’t Bother Me’
Mindy Kaling doesn’t care who people think the father of her children is, as unfounded rumors that their parent may be her The Office co-star B.J. Novak.
Kaling is a prolific writer behind features like Late Night and co-creator of shows like Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls.
She also gave birth to a daughter, Katherine Swati, in late 2017, and expanded her family more when she had a son, Spencer, in 2020. She has declined to reveal the identity of their birth father, even to close friends.
Fans and online sleuths have suspected that the parent could be Novak even through a sperm donation if they weren’t in a relationship.
He is legally their godfather, and they both have a friendship from years of writing and acting on The Office, but this is likely just a Kelly and Ryan fan fiction come to life more than real evidence of parenthood.
Kaling told Marie Claire that “it doesn’t bother me” to hear rumors like that. “They have such a great relationship … [the rumor] hasn’t affected my kids or B.J. If that’s going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it.”
