Actor Milo Ventimiglia has revealed his favorite fan theory about This Is Us character Jack’s death.
At the ATX TV Festival This Is Us panel, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke and executive producer/director Ken Olin were onstage with Ventimiglia.
“Miguel killed him,” he said about Jack during a panel discussion at the festival. “I enjoyed that one just because it feels so far-fetched and a bit ridiculous—because Miguel is Jack’s best friend!”
Salke, when asked if any fan theories were correct, remained evasive, saying, “They’re pretty entertaining, but none of them have gotten close to what it is.”
Salke also revealed that fans even confront him about the mystery. “The other day,” he said, “I was walking down the street with Justin (Hartley, who plays Kevin) after dinner, and he was mobbed with fans yelling, ‘You have to tell us!'”
Olin was even more evasive. “I didn’t even know Jack died!” he joked. But he loves fans’ enthusiasm, he said. “They may be onto something—probably not, but then when it happens, hopefully just, poof! It’ll blow them away. The truth is, [Jack’s fate] was one of those things that got away from us. It’s one of the many emotional layers in the story…. it’s become this thing that we obviously need to address at some point, and we will.”
As for the long-awaited new season, Salke said, “Season two I know will be bigger than season one. There’s a lot of things happening. The show isn’t going to settle down and get quieter. It’ll maintain all its authenticity and soulfulness, but there’s a lot happening. I’ve got to tell you, it’s incredible.”
