Miley Cyrus Wins First Ever Grammy For ‘Flowers,’ Doesn’t Thank Dad Billy Ray Cyrus

On Sunday night, Miley Cyrus won her first-ever Grammy Award for her song “Flowers.”

Presented by fellow singer Mariah Carey, Cyrus won Best Pop Solo Performance.

“This M.C. is going to stand by this M.C. for this because this is just too iconic,” Cyrus said in her speech, referencing her and Carey’s shared initials.

Cyrus also mentioned how she was seated in her “lucky number three seat.” She continued the speech by telling a story to “sum up this moment.”

“There was a little boy that all he wanted for his birthday was a butterfly. So, his parents gave him a butterfly net and he was so excited, he just went outside out in the sun and started swinging and swinging. But with no luck, he sat down on the ground, he finally let go and he surrendered, and he was okay that he wasn’t going to capture this beautiful butterfly. Right when he did is when the butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose. And this song, ‘Flowers,’ is my butterfly. Thank you.”

Cyrus won her second Grammy later that night for Best Record Of The Year. On stage with her producers, Cyrus thanked her family but omitted her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. People speculate this is due to her family’s current divide after Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus‘ divorce and Tish’s remarriage to actor Dominic Purcell. She also thanked her producers’ families before leaving the stage.

“Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular,” she said. “So please don’t think that this is important, even though it’s very important.”
