Miley Cyrus is adding fuel to the rumors that she and fiancé Liam Hemsworth have called it quits by unfollowing him on Twitter.
Cyrus, who has always been extremely active in the Twitterverse, unfollowed her actor fiancé on Saturday, though Hemsworth is still currently following Cyrus on Twitter. The public move has many wondering if the couple is done for good, especially in conjunction with the rumors that Hemsworth was unhappy with Cyrus’ daring performance at the VMAs.
Cyrus and Hemsworth met in 2009 on the set of their romantic drama, The Last Song. The two were engaged in May of 2012.
“I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus said at the time.
Since their engagement, the couple has been plagued with break-up rumors. In March of 2013, there were reports that Hemsworth had moved out of their home in L.A. and relocated to his native Australia. Reports also claimed that Hemsworth had been engaging in an affair with January Jones, causing his rep to issue a denial on Sept. 11.
“The story of Liam Hemsworth and January Jones is entirely fabricated by Us Weekly. There is no truth whatsoever to this tabloid fiction,” the rep told E! News.
Regardless of whether the rumors are true or not, there’s no denying that Cyrus and Hemsworth have been keeping their distance lately. Cyrus is busy in Europe promoting her new album Bangerz and Hemsworth tweeted that he was in Vegas for the weekend.
Hemsworth and Cyrus last appeared together at the premiere of Hemsworth’s summer thriller Paranoia in early August. The couple walked down the red carpet with Cyrus wearing her engagement ring, but reports allege that the two acted coldly toward one another.
“Miley and Liam acted like they didn’t even know each other the entire night. She was wearing her ring, but they acted as if they were strangers,” a source told Us Weekly.
In June, Cyrus insisted that her engagement was still ongoing during her appearance on Good Morning America. When asked if she was still getting married, Cyrus answered, “I’m wearing a ring, so.”
However, in a recent interview, Cyrus admitted that she hasn’t been thinking about her wedding plans recently.
“I definitely don’t have time to deal with a wedding right now. But I will at some point,” Cyrus told Harper’s Bazaar.
Cyrus’ upcoming album, Bangerz is set for release Oct. 8 and Hemsworth will return to the big screen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Nov. 22.
