Miley Cyrus Sued For $300 Million For Copyright Infringement By Flourgon

Miley Cyrus is being sued by Jamaican songwriter Michael May for $300 million. He claims her 2013 song “We Can’t Stop” appropriated elements from his 1988 song We Run Things.”

May, also known by his stage name Flourgon, claims half of the song “We Can’t Stop”comes from his number one single in Jamaica. He accused her label and RCA Records of using parts of his song such as, “We run things. Things run no we,“ which she sings as, “We run things. Things don’t run we.” He also claims the song, “owes the basis of its chart-topping popularity to and its highly-lucrative success to plaintiff May’s protected, unique, creative and original content.”

May won “formal copyright protection” for his song “We Run Things” in November 2017. He also wants the sales and performances of “We Can’t Stop” to cease.

Representatives for Cyrus and her label haven’t commented on the lawsuit.

Taylor Swift was also faced a lawsuit this year. The artists Sean Hall and Nathan Butler claimed the lyrics for “Shake It Off” were taken from their song “Playas Gon’ Play.”
