Miley Cyrus spoke about her time on Hannah Montana on the CBS Sunday Morning show.
The singer said that she did enjoy her time as part of the Disney family, despite her eagerness to leave when she got older. “I didn’t know anything else,” she explained. “I knew I was getting to live what I wanted to do. I got to do two things that I loved, I got to act at that time and I got to be funny,” she said.
Cyrus did, however, say how her thoughts on the show have changed as she’s grown up. “I think now that I’m older, I realize that’s a lot to put on a kid, to have them have to go get their makeup done, and then also balance school,” she said. “And then also have me dress up in a wig as a kid is a little weird, it’s a little Toddlers and Tiaras.”
Cyrus admitted she believes becoming famous at such a young age was harmful to her adult self. “I think what was hard for me was balancing everything,” she said. “I think it got harder when I started touring as both – I toured as Hannah Montana and as myself. I think that’s probably what’s a little bit wrong with me now!” she added. “I mark that up to doing some extreme damage in my psyche as an adult person.”
However, she understands the power of her show, and how much it meant to a young audience. “I think why people loved Hannah Montana was because Hannah Montana did feel real, and that’s because I was under there, and people forgot that sometimes,” she said. “And I loved being that character, and that’s what made people love her.
But at the end of the day, Cyrus says it’s really all about the music. “Honestly, music is everything. All people wanna have is great music, and for that audience, for what that was, that was great music for kids to listen to,” she said adamantly. “There’s a song called ‘Life’s What You Make It, So Let’s Make It Rock.’ Never forget that, wise words, that’s a good thing to tell kids,” she said.
