Miley Cyrus has completely changed her tune recently, and cites stopping smoking weed as the reason.
Gone are the days of inflatable penises and twerking for Cyrus, who now sports jean shorts and sun-bleached hair. Her new single “Malibu” is markedly different from her last album, Bangerz. In May, the 24-year-old revealed the reasoning for the change – she’s not drinking or smoking marijuana anymore.
She reiterated that fact to Jimmy Fallon on his talk show this week, and explained what brought her to that decision. “You, without knowing it, were kind of a reason for this, because I’ve always been very stoned on your shows, I don’t know if you know this,” she started off. “I stopped smoking because to sit here and to talk about what I’m doing, I wanted to be really clear. I’m actually the most passionate about what I’m doing with this record than I’ve been—I say this every time, but I loved making this record so, so much… So I wanted to make sure that I’m super clear in the way I’m talking.”
Aside from wanting to be less clouded all the time, Cyrus also told Fallon about a recurring nightmare she’d been experiencing that solidified her desire to quit weed. “I kept having this nightmare…that I would die during my monologue on SNL for some reason, that I would just get so stoned and just died, which I Googled and that’s never happened, but I kept having this nightmare.”
“How much weed were you smoking?” Fallon followed up.
“A lot of weed. It’s like no one’s died form weed but no one’s ever smoked as much as I did, so they don’t really know,” Cyrus joked. “But I was just thinking, if I wanna sit on this couch and really tell people what I think about my new music, I wanted to sound as smart as hopefully i think that i could and really explain what I’m doing.”
