Miley Cyrus, Neil Young Lose Homes In Malibu Wildfire; Lady Gaga Visits Shelter

Musicians Neil Young and Miley Cyrus were among dozens of celebrities whose houses burned down Monday in wildfires in California that started on Friday.

“I am one of the lucky ones,” Malibu resident Cyrus tweeted Monday. “My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong.”

Cyrus, 25, then thanked firefighters and other California first responders. A series of similar wildfires also struck California in late 2017.

Cyrus is engaged to Australian actor Liam Hemsworthher co-star from the 2010 film The Last Song.

In a statement on his website, Young wrote that California was facing something of unprecedented magnitude.

“Firefighters have never seen anything like this in their lives,” Young wrote. “I have heard that said countless times in the past two days, and I have lost my home before to a California fire, now another.”

Members of the Kardashian family and Lady Gaga were also forced to evacuate their homes due to a fire that has killed two people and destroyed more than 370 buildings.

Gaga also visited an American Red Cross shelter on Sunday in Pacific Palisades. The 32-year-old pop singer — who currently stars in A Star Is Born — said in a video shared by TMZ that she encouraged California residents to speak with mental health assistants if they felt the necessity to do so.

“I know that a lot of you are feeling a lot of pain right now, and a lot of shock,” said Gaga. “I feel kind of in a daze, and I’m not really sure when or how this is going to hit me.”

Other celebrities whose homes were destroyed in the fires include Hunter Killer star Gerard Butler and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer.

Actor Martin Sheen, who had been temporarily separated from his son Charlie Sheen because of the fires, said the disaster was one of the worst he’d seen in California after 48 years of living in Malibu.

“I’ve never seen one with this intensity, for this long, that took out so much property and caused such havoc,” he said.
