Miley Cyrus and Elton John performed a sweet duet of “Tiny Dancer” at the Grammys on Sunday.
John began with a single white rose on his piano and was joined by Cyrus in a ball gown. The pair harmonized to one of John’s most recognizable tracks. John retired from touring last week at the age of 70, but announced one final three year, 300-date world tour.
John often appeared at the Grammy Awards alongside notable young stars. In 2001, he controversially took the stage with Eminem to perform his hit “Stan,” as the rapper was facing ire because of his homophobic lyrics. In 2010, John was a guest at the end of Lady Gaga‘s Grammy debut, where they mashed up her own song “Speechless” with his “Your Song.” Then in 2013, John joined Ed Sheeran to sing his “The A-Team.”
This was Cyrus’ second performance at the Grammys, having once before joined Taylor Swift for a duet of her ballad “Fifteen.” Cyrus has only been nominated for a Grammy once, for Bangerz in 2015, which was up for Best Pop Vocal Album.
“Sir Elton John, I can’t thank you enough for giving me the honor of performing with you tonight at The Grammys! I’ve loved every moment I’ve spent with you over the years & will cherish each second of your kindness …. let’s kick ass and keep fighting for an end to the AIDS epidemic! Everything you do inspires me to keep workin hard and never giving up on all my dreams ! Love you dearly!” Cyrus wrote on Instagram after their performance. She also posted a video of her part singing on the song.
