Singer Miley Cyrus was absent from Fox’s Teen Choice Awards show on Sunday night because of an “unrealistic schedule.” When apologizing for her absence, Cyrus also mentioned that she has been spending a lot of time preparing her new single and music video set to debut this Friday.

The awards show mentioned several times before the airing of the show that Cyrus, who won the Ultimate Choice Award, would be in attendance. Her absence was only announced when presenter of the award, Victoria Justice, explained to the crowd that the “Party in the U.S.A.” singer was missing.

“It’s a bummer,” Justice said.

In a post to Instagram, Cyrus, who has recently reformed her image from a young wild pop star into a maturing country singer, apologized for her truancy.

“To my dearest fans & all of those watching @teenchoicefox ! I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for presenting me with #TheUltimateChoiceAward,” the singer began. “I am beyond bummed I couldn’t make it to the show as I had every intention of ebing there to accept and celebrate this honor! I created an unrealistic schedule for myself which leads me to this announcement!”

Cyrus continued, “I’ve been tryin [sic] to keep the secret but I can’t hide it any longer! My new single / music video #YoungerNow will be dropping this Friday, Aug 18th & I am sooooooo EXCITED to share it with all of you!”

The message was captioned to an image of what is presumably the cover art for “Younger Now.” The cover shows a young Cyrus, possibly before her days as Disney’s Hannah Montana, smiling into the camera.

The singer, who has long been active in politics, also took some time to comment on the violence inspired by the white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.

“I hope to always make people smile and shine light thru my work! I look forward to making music for the rest of my life and I’m thankful everyday for those who listen! I am sending so much love and peace into the world right now because THATS what we need most! Love Love & more LOVE!”

Earlier in the day, she also shared an image encouraging people to find vigils for those who were murdered or injured in Charlottesville over the weekend. Cyrus tagged her Happy Hippie Foundation in the post. Cyrus created the foundation in 2014 in the hopes of inspiring young people to fight injustice everywhere.
