Mike Tyson revealed during a radio show appearance this week that he was sexually abused as a child.
Tyson appeared on SiriusXM’s Opie Radio on Friday when he opened up about his experience with sexual abuse. "I was a little kid, 7," Tyson told co-host Jim Norton. "Old man, yea."
When Norton asked the boxing champion whether it was a one time event or repeated abuse, Tyson said it happened once and that the man was a stranger. "No, one time," Tyson said. "Never seen him again….snatched me off the street."
Norton pressed Tyson, "He abused you and just let you go or did you escape?" After Tyson said that he had run away from the man, Norton asked him if he felt "drastically changed" because of the experience.
Tyson replied, "I don't know if I did or not,” adding, "I'm not embarrassed or ashamed of anything from that perspective.”
Tyson made the revelation while promoting his new animated series Mike Tyson Mysteries, which is airing on Adult Swim. As for the off-the-cuff reveal about his harrowing experience as a child, a rep for Tyson says the former athlete is “in a good place.”
"He is in a good place in his life with sobriety, family and career,” the rep told ABC News.
