Mike Tyson is planning to pen a 40-acre marijuana resort in Souther California, called Tyson Ranch.

MIKE TYSON PLANNING MARIJUANA RANCH

The former boxer broke ground on his plot in California City, and intends to grow marijuana as well as fund research into the medical uses and effects of the drug. Half of the 40 acres will be used to create “high-quality strains of THC and CBD,” and part of the remaining acres will have a hydro-feed plant and supply store, an extraction facility, an edible factory, ‘glamping’ campgrounds, an amphitheater, and the Tyson Cultivation School to help teach new growers of the plant.

Tyson was fined in 2000 for testing positive for marijuana, and he admitted in his 2013 memoir that he got high before all major fights he participated in. He even detailed how he would trick official testers using a fake penis and clean urine. Tyson also said he used the drug when he was sentenced for cocaine possession in 2007.

California became the sixth state in the country to allow recreational marijuana use, which came into effect on January 1. This provided Tyson, and others, the opportunity to sell the drug legally with a license. California City mayor Jennifer Wood called a ranch a “rebirth” for the city, and hopes it will provide more jobs to residents in the area.
