Former Vice President Mike Pence said he won’t endorse Donald Trump in this year’s upcoming election. Pence, who ended his presidential bid in October, did not endorse any candidate in the 2024 Republican primary. However, Pence implied he would eventually back Trump.
Pence is now withdrawing his support for the former president with whom he spent four years working for.
“Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda we governed on during our four years,” Pence said on Friday to Fox News. “That’s why I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign.”
Pence said he was proud of what he and Trump accomplished during their administration but cited differences in ideals, which he said he made clear during his presidential campaign.
“During my presidential campaign, I made it clear there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues. And not just our difference on my constitutional duties that I exercised January 6,” he added.
Pence claimed Trump has veered from conservative values by changing his views on abortion, TikTok and national debt.
“As I have watched his candidacy unfold, I’ve seen him walking away from our commitment to confronting the national debt. I’ve seen him starting to shy away from a commitment to the sanctity of human life. And this last week, his reversal on getting tough on China and supporting our administration’s efforts to force a sale of ByteDance’s TikTok.”
Although Pence said he will not endorse Trump, the former VP said he will “never vote” for President Joe Biden.
