Mike Huckabee, one of the many Republican presidential hopefuls for 2016, weighed in on President Barack Obama’s Iran nuclear deal with a controversial reference to the Holocaust.

Mike Huckabee’s Holocaust Rhetoric

Huckabee decided to invoke images of the Holocaust during an interview with Breitbart News Sunday in which he was asked for his thoughts on the Iran deal. Not content to merely express his difference of opinion with the president and the deal his administration brokered, the politician warned that the deal will “march [Israelis] to the door of the oven.”

“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians,” Huckabee said. “By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”

“This is the most idiotic thing, this Iran deal,” Huckabee continued. “It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It’s got to be stopped.”

Huckabee, despite a considerable amount of outrage, has not backed down or apologized for his remarks. Instead, the presidential hopeful seems to be digging his heels into his statement. The comment speaks for itself,” Huckabee’s spokesperson Alice Stewart told CNN when asked to elaborate. Additionally, Huckabee posted a quote card to Instagram in which the featured quote is his objectionable statement.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz spoke out against Huckabee’s “door of the oven” remark, calling it “unacceptable.”

“This rhetoric, while commonplace in today’s Republican presidential primary, has no place in American politics,” Wasserman said in a statement. “Cavalier analogies to the Holocaust are unacceptable. Mike Huckabee must apologize to the Jewish community and to the American people for this grossly irresponsible statement.”
