Mike Flacco, Younger Brother Of Joe Flacco, Enters 2014 NFL Draft After One Season Of College Football

Mike Flacco, younger brother of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, has announced that he will be entering the 2014 NFL Draft.

Flacco, 26, currently plays tight end for the University of New Haven. Previously, he specialized in baseball and was the 31st-round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2009. After three years in the minor leagues and being traded to the Boston Red Sox in March, 2013, Flacco decided to end his professional baseball career. After training and gaining 30 pounds of muscle during offseason, Flacco enrolled at the University of New Haven in the summer of 2013, setting his sights on a career in the NFL.

Though Flacco still has two years of eligibility left, he has decided to enter the draft after just one season of college football – a sport he had not played since high school. In his first season with New Haven, Flacco was selected third-team Division II All-American and finished his 10-game season with nine touchdowns and 30 catches for 591 yards.

Pete Rossomando, New Haven coach, predicted that Flacco would soon be entering his name into the NFL draft last summer just after Flacco joined the team.

“He’s got to play for the University of New Haven or he won’t play for the NFL. He’s got some work to do, but he’s a great guy who’s willing to put in the work. He’s a very humble guy, similar to Joe in that respect. With his ability, he can be knocking on the door rather quickly,” Rossomando told The Baltimore Sun in July, 2013.
