Kanye West’s long-awaited album Donda has been subject to the multiple delays that have occurred.
Mike Dean, a producer who has worked with West often, was thought to have quit the project after this grueling period of production. This was due to multiple messages that he posted to his Twitter account on the night of Aug. 15, including statements such as “F*CK THIS” and “good to be at the house!!!”
“100000% FOCUS ON MY SHOW PRODUCTION FOR NEXT WEEK. GONNA BE LIKE COACHELLA IN A 650 PERSON VENUE!!” was another tweet made by Dean. Dean also responded to a fan who asked him to help Kanye by saying that he was helping himself. Dean also said that he was much more than the producer of Donda in a response to a Twitter user.
These outbursts led many to believe that he had cut ties with West or quit working on the album. Dean later responded via Twitter, assuring the public that he was still on board. “I haven’t quit anything. The album continues. Lol. People read too much into tweets. Lol,” read Dean’s tweet.
Dean even featured a picture of his production situation at home in Los Angeles.
Dean has assumed roles as a producer, audio engineer and instrumentalist for various artists since the 1980s. He first worked with West on the Graduation album. He is also credited on West’s 808’s and Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Watch the Throne, Cruel Summer, Yeezus, The Life of Pablo and ye projects. He has also worked with artists including Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Kid Cudi.
