Migos Rapper Takeoff Killed At 28 In Houston Shooting Over Dice Game

Takeoff, one of three in Atlanta rap group Migos, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in downtown Houston.

The 28-year-old was with Migos member Quavo at 810 Billiards and Bowling Alley for a private party. Around 2:40 a.m., an altercation broke out over a dice game and an unknown shooter opened fire. A representative for Migos confirmed that Takeoff, born Kirshnik Khari Ball, was killed.

The Houston Police Department said a man with a gunshot wound to the head or neck was pronounced dead at the scene, although they reported that they are waiting for the medical examiner’s office to identify the victim before publicly confirming his identity.

Takeoff, along with his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset, formed Migos in 2008 and topped charts with the release of their viral song Versace in 2013. Since then, the group has become a household name and has been revered as one of the most influential rap groups of the generation.

In 2018, Takeoff released his solo debut album “The Last Rocket.” The album was received overwhelmingly well among critics. Pitchfork’s review of the album labeled him “the trio’s best rapper, with the most promising career prospects outside of the group.”

Fans and friends of Takeoff have taken to social media to remember the rapper’s life and legacy.

The news has been emotional for many in the hip-hop community. Rapper Desiigner posted a tearful live video on Instagram mourning Takeoff’s tragic death.

“I’m done,” he said. “I can’t live like this no more.”

Hundreds of social media users have posted their favorite pop culture moments of the rap star, from interviews to rap verses.

One of Takeoff’s lawyers told the New York Times, “the world was starting to learn about Takeoff. It was his time to shine.”
