Michelle Obama Reveals Why She Is ‘Not Interested In Politics’
Former First Lady Michelle Obama is opening up about why she has no interest in politics. On March 20, Obama explained while speaking to media personality Kylie Kelce on her podcast, Not Gonna Lie.
“I was so glad when we got out of the White House, not, you know – it was just like – I wanted [my daughters] to have the freedom of not having the – the eyes of the world on them,” she stated.

Obama was alluding to the end of her husband, Barack Obama‘s second presidential term in 2017 and the daughters she shares with him, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama.
“I mean, they still are dealing with paparazzi and being who they are and trying to, you know, carve out their own identity,” the former first lady stated. “But they got a lot of practice in those years in the White House. And so when people ask me ‘would I ever run [for office],’ the answer is ‘no.'”
In March 2024, she made a similar statement when her office announced that she had no plans to run for president in the 2024 election, even though she was the frontrunner to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee in many polls.
“If you ask me that, then you have absolutely no idea the – the sacrifice that your kids make when your parents are in that role,” Obama stated.
“Not only am I not interested in politics in that way, but the thought of, like, putting my girls back into that, you know – that spotlight when they are just now establishing themselves, it’s like, you know, OK I think we’ve – we’ve done enough,” the former first lady declared. “Question asked and answered. Never going to happen.”
She then said her children have “already served their time” and that putting them back in the spotlight would be “unthinkable.”
