Michelle Obama Criticizes Donald Trump’s School Lunch Decision

Michelle Obama criticized the new Trump administration’s decision regarding school lunches on Friday.

The former First Lady spoke at the annual summit on childhood obesity for the Partnership for a Healthier America. She bashed critics who complain that kids don’t like the healthier school meals implemented during the Obama administration.

Earlier this month, Donald Trump announced he would be winding back her federally-funded school lunch program, which requires lunches to contain less fat and more whole grains, fresh fruit or vegetables.

Michelle Obama questioned why the Trump administration were okay with America’s children “eating crap.” Obama also defended her Let’s Move! initiative at the conference.

“How about we not let kids completely guide everything?” she said.  “How about we stop asking kids how they feel about their food? Kids, my kids included, if they could eat pizza and french fries every day with ice cream on top and a soda, they would think they were happy, until they got sick.”

“That to me is one of the most ridiculous things we talk about in this movement, that the kids aren’t happy. Well, you know what? Kids don’t like math, either. So what are we going to do, stop teaching math? We gonna cut history out because there are kids who are bored with history? We are the adults in the room, you know? They look to us. So let’s just stop with that,” she continued.

Obama also objected to a proposed delay of nutritional labels on food that would prominently feature information about calorie and sugar content. The food industry wants to push the deadline from 2018 to 2020. The former First Lady said the move would “keep families ignorant.”

“You don’t need to know what’s in your food. You can’t handle that, mom. Just buy this, be quiet, spend your money — don’t ask us about what’s in your food,” she commented.
