Michelle Knight, who was held captive by Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro for 11 years, recently spoke out in detail about her horrifying experience with Dr. Phil McGraw.

Knight, 32, was kidnapped by Castro when she was a 21-year-old single mother. She admits that in the early days of her captivity, she was often in tears, begging her captor to allow her to go see her son. As the years went by, however, Knight became known as the one Castro could not hope to break – though he tried.

"I was tied up like a fish… an ornament on the wall,” Berry told Dr. Phil, referring to how Castro would tie her up with an orange extension cord. According to Berry, he’d hang her up by her feet and her neck and arms. She also often found her mouth shut with duct tape.

McGraw, who will air segments of his interview with Knight on the Tuesday and Wednesday’s airings of his talk show, marveled at the kidnapping victim’s resilience in the face of all her torment on Anderson Cooper 360. "It's astounding to me that she had the strength that she did," McGraw told Anderson Cooper. "She says that she was referred to as the unbreakable one. She fought him every step of the way."

Knight frequently faced harsh consequences when she disobeyed Castro in the Cleveland house. "Now you're gonna be punished,” he’d tell her whenever she’d fall into his traps that were meant to coax her into escape attempts. One way in which she was punished was to be chained to a wall so she couldn't lie down with a motorcycle helmet on.

Part of Castro’s elevated aggression towards Knight, who has suffered vision loss and muscle damage, can be explained in part by his disappointment in finding out her age. "He was obsessed with prostitutes and also he thought I was a 13-year-old prostitute," she said in her interview. "When he found out my real age he got mad."

In May, Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus were able to finally escape from Castro’s house after Berry managed to draw the attention of a neighbor. Since then, Knight has been the most outspoken of the bunch, speaking at Castro’s court case and making an appearance as the home she was held captive in was demolished.

Castro was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years in August for the crimes he committed against Knight, Berry and DeJesus. He allegedly died of auto-erotic asphyxiation in his jail cell the following month.
