Michelle Dockery was among the mourners at her fiancé John Dineen’s funeral at a church in County Cork, Ireland, Tuesday.
Downton Abbey star Dockery, clad all in black, bid farewell to Dineen inside the church of St. James at Ballinora in the rural Irish county, reported the Daily Mail. She was joined by hundreds of fellow mourners, including his parents – Maria and Patrick – other family members and friends.
A private funeral service will be held for Dineen Wednesday, after which he will be buried.
“He was so very handsome, a beautiful young man,” Councillor Mary Shields, a local representative from Dineen’s hometown, told People. “It’s heart-wrenching to see a young couple separated like this. They had their whole lives in front of them. It’s so tragic and so sad.”
Dineen passed away on Sunday following a battle with a rare form of cancer, aged 34. When his health took a turn for the worst last week, Dockery cut short a promotional tour for Downton Abbey in the United States to return to Ireland to be at her fiancé’s bedside.
“The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received,” read a statement from Dockery’s spokesperson. “But would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.”
