Michael Weatherly opened up about his upcoming role as Dr. Jason Bull in his new CBS series Bull, during an interview with Extra on Thursday.
Weatherly recently departed hit CBS crime show NCIS after 13 seasons, but is set to star as a doctor in a new CBS pilot airing this fall.
Weatherly’s character is loosely based on popular daytime talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw.
“It has been amazing to play a character who is all about human connection,” Weatherly told Extra reporter Renee Bargh about his Bull character. “He is about finding out why we do the things we do, but he is also about getting to the truth of something and the truth is in the heart.”
Weatherly also took the time to speak about politics and what his new character may think about the presidential election.
“We’re in the middle of a crazy election. I wonder, are you following it? Do you keep tabs with this?” Bargh asked.
“Yes, one must. If one is alive on the planet Earth in 2016,” the actor joked. “I think it’s fascinating and I wonder what Dr. Bull would make of all of it.”
“What would he think of Trump?” Bargh questioned.
“I think it’s — let’s ask Dr. Phil!” Weatherly replied. “I don’t wanna answer that question.”
Bull premieres Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
