After 13 seasons playing Tony DiNozzo on the popular crime TV show, NCIS, Michael Weatherly confirmed on Tuesday night that he is leaving. The season is set to end in April.
“DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn’t have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons,” he wrote on Twitter Tuesday night.
CBS also confirmed DiNozzo’s leaving. CBS said he was “a valued part of the CBS family,” and that “the immense charm and talent he brings to the screen as ‘Very’ Special Agent Tony DiNozzo has helped make NCIS what it is today — the No. 1 drama in the world.”
The actor also tweeted a picture of him and his castmate, Pauley Perrette, who is also a pivotal part of the show. The tweet said “Les Moonves & CBS game me the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Weatherly has been part of the TV drama since the start and his comic relief made him a show favorite.
