Michael Keaton, who has received an Oscar nomination for Birdman, is reportedly in talks to play Ray Kroc, the man behind McDonald’s, in The Founder.
Keaton is on the shortlist to take on the titular role in The Founder, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He reportedly met with John Lee Hancock – who is onboard to direct the picture based on the fast food founder’s life – on Monday, just one day after picking up an award at the 2015 Golden Globes. Keaton has allegedly already received an offer for the part.
The Founder, with a screenplay by Robert Siegel (Big Fan), will chart how Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, came upon Mac and Dick McDonald’s Southern California burger joint and saw franchise potential. It’ll follow Kroc as he takes the business out from under the brothers and turns it into the world’s most successful fast food joint.
According to THR, the script for The Founder reads similarly to films like The Social Network and There Will Be Blood.
In addition to the Ray Kroc biopic, Keaton is also rumored to join Legendary and Universal’s Skull Island tentpole.
