Michael Jackson’s Son, Bigi, Challenges Grandmother’s Use Of Estate Funds In Court

Michael Jackson’s son, Bigi, 22, (formerly known as Blanket), has taken his grandmother, Katherine Jackson, to court.

According to court documents, Bigi has requested that Katherine be prohibited from utilizing the late pop legend’s estate to finance her legal dispute against the executors regarding an undisclosed “recent transaction.”

Bigi’s argument centers around the notion that since the estate would not derive any “benefit” from Katherine’s appeal against co-executors John Branca and John McClain, it should not have to cover any of her legal costs.

The appeal pertains to the executors’ previous request for approval to proceed with an unspecified transaction. Although not explicitly named in the filing, it seems to be the Jackson estate’s estimated $600 million catalog sale to Sony.

Initially, Bigi and Katherine were aligned in opposition to the estate’s proposed transaction. However, after a court ruling last year in favor of the deal, Bigi and his siblings accepted the decision, while Katherine pursued an appeal that is currently pending.

In December, Katherine sought the estate’s assistance to cover her legal expenses incurred while she objected to the transaction. However, Bigi now argues that it would be “unfair” for him and his siblings to bear the financial burden.

Lawyers on behalf of Bigi wrote, “It is readily apparent that a reversal on appeal would be an extreme longshot… Given those odds, Bigi decided not to waste his resources to participate in an appeal. Nonetheless, Katherine has decided to appeal this court’s ruling. That decision is not for the benefit of the heirs.”

The amount Katherine is seeking remains undisclosed.

While Bigi does not oppose reasonable attorney fees and costs related to Katherine’s initial objection, as essential evidence was presented, he questions the overall amount incurred at the trial. The court filing emphasized that Katherine’s petition effectively transfers the financial responsibility for her appeal onto Bigi and his siblings, which he deems unjust given their express decision to forego participating in the appeal process.

Born via surrogate in 2002, Bigi, formerly known as Prince Michael Jackson II, adopted his new name in 2015 after being teased by classmates at his L.A. private school. He recently started a YouTube channel with his brother, Prince Jackson.
