Michael Jace, best known for starring as an LAPD detective in The Shield, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife, April Jace.

Michael Jace Charged With Murder

Jace, 51, was formally charged with his wife’s death on Thursday, the prosecutor's spokesperson Jane Robison told CNN. The Los Angeles County coroner, Deputy Chief Coroner Ed Winter, ruled the death a homicide, finding that April Jace died of “multiple gunshot wounds.”

On Thursday, L.A. police detectives presented the evidence against Jace to the district attorney, according to Robison.

Jace shot his wife at their home in the South Los Angeles area of Hyde Park late Monday night. After shooting her, he called the police, admitted his guilt in the incident and remained at the home until police arrived. He was arrested at the scene and brought to the local jail. The couple’s sons, both under 10 years of age, were at the house at the time of the shooting and are now in the care of relatives.

Upon Jace’s arrest, the police said in a statement, “At this moment, the motive of the murder is believed to be domestic violence.” There have been no past reports of domestic violence between the married pair, however it has been reported that Jace was physically abusive towards his previous wife, Jennifer Bitterman.

If convicted of his wife’s murder, Jace will likely face 50 years to life in prison. He is being held on $2 million bail.
