Michael Douglas does not give up easily. After a recent cancer diagnosis, Douglas, 65, has been optimistic about his chances and is maintaining an upbeat attitude. "I’m just taking it a day at a time and trying to do my homework with the program and rest. It’s just another chapter, and I’ve had a pretty good run of it," he told People at a recent event for his upcoming movie, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
Douglas said he is keeping a calm head about the cancer. "I like my odds. I’m not dealing with mortality issues until they tell me, ‘Oops, we have to go back and do surgery’ or something like that," he told USA Today, going on to add that "the tumor is shrinking." Douglas even jokes about his situation, praising the timing of illness because "tennis has never been better. College football just started – so the sport looks really good."
Despite wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’ earlier anger at the late diagnosis, she is doing her best to support her husband. "It’s amazing how some days are better than others," she said. "He’s doing great." Douglas will appear in Monday’s Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon event, along with Denzel Washington, Renee Zellweger, George Clooney, Will Smith, Seth Rogen, Reese Witherspoon and many others. –AMY LEE
