Michael Douglas And Catherine Zeta-Jones Taking Time Off From Their Marriage

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have separated after 13 years of marriage.

The actors, who have not yet filed for divorce or legal separation, have reportedly been taking time apart for some time – they have not been photographed together since late April, reports People.

“Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage,” reads a statement from Zeta-Joes’ rep.

It has been a rough few years for the couple. In 2010, Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent successful treatment. Following Douglas’ illness, Zeta-Jones revealed she suffers from Bipolar II disorder when she entered into treatment in 2011. Zeta-Jones also underwent treatment this past April.

“The stress has taken a toll on their marriage,” a source told People.

Publicly, the stars have been nothing but supportive of each other. In May, Douglas spoke about his wife while doing press at the Cannes Film Festival for his film Behind the Candelabra, expressing his support at her decision to reaffirm her treatment.

“She’s doing a really good job of getting balanced. I’m proud of her,” Douglas told People.

In July, Zeta-Jones vacationed in Canada with the couple’s two children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, in Canada without Douglas.

“We’ll swim in lakes and go to the beach somewhere, swim in the ocean and just be together,” Zeta-Jones told People of her vacation plans.

Zeta-Jones is reportedly currently staying at their New York home while Douglas is enjoying a vacation on a yacht in Sardinia. Even with their current separation, sources seemed hopeful for a reconciliation, adding that their main focus is on their children.

“They want the best for their kids, no matter what happens,” a friend told People.
