Canadian singer Michael Bublé‘s career is “on hold” after he learned that his three-year-old son Noah Bublé has cancer.

“We are devastated about the recent cancer diagnosis of our oldest son Noah who is currently undergoing treatment in the US,” Bublé, and his wife, Argentinian actress Luisana Lopilato, wrote in a statement on the singer’s Facebook page. “We have always been very vocal about the importance of family and the love we have for our children.”

The statement continues, “Luisana and I have put our careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well. At this difficult time, we ask only for your prayers and respect for our privacy. We have a long journey in front of us and hope that with the support of family, friends and fans around the world, we will win this battle, God willing.”

Just a week before the diagnosis, the 41-year-old singer discussed the joys of being a father to Noah and his sister, nine-month-old Eli in an interview with Us Weekly. He shared how Noah and Eli make each other laugh, and expressed the joy he feels being a father. “I pray that everything stays good and they are happy and healthy,” The Grammy winner said.

He also shared that fatherhood “has given me great perspective. It has helped me to draw a line in the sand and to know that I am defined by being a father and a family man, not by my job.”
