TNT has given Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer’s Untitled Cocaine Project a pilot order.
Based on Bill Corben and Alfred Spellman’s 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys, the Untitled Cocaine Project will delve into the cocaine trade in 1970s Florida and the battle law enforcement waged against it as gang violence increased. Masters of Sex creator Michelle Ashford penned the script for the pilot, reported Entertainment Weekly.
The pitch for the project reads as follows: “A serialized character drama that brings the audience into the captivating, wild and unpredictable world of the Florida drug trade in the 1970s.”
Initially, HBO was set to pick up the series produced by the Bad Boys and Armageddon duo of Bay and Bruckheimer back in 2011. But the project ended up lying dormant. They first tried to get the concept on the small screen in 2008 with The Bridge writer Meredith Steihm on board.
Concurrently, Mark Wahlberg has been spearheading a feature film set in the same drug-fueled world. Wahlberg is set to star in the picture, which will be directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) from a script by William Monahan (The Departed).
