Actor Michael B. Jordan announced last week that he will now add an inclusion rider to every project helmed by his company, the Outlier Society Productions.
Diversity in Hollywood has been a prominent issue lately, with Marvel Studios’ Black Panther – which Jordan was featured in – garnering praise for the diversity of its cast. Actress Frances McDorrmand is invested in this cause, having closed her speech at the Oscars imploring people to consider the inclusion rider. An inclusion rider is a clause that gives actors the ability to demand that a project has more diversity amongst its cast.
Last Wednesday, Jordan shared a picture on his Instagram account, which features the actor with his company’s head of production and development, Alana Mayo, and his agent, Phil Sun. In the photo’s description, Jordan explains how he’s been blessed “to work with powerful woman & persons of color throughout my career & it’s Outlier’s mission to continue to create for talented individuals going forward.” Jordan notes how he’s enacting the inclusion rider “in support of woman & men who are leading this fight.”
