MGM Studios tried to have the long-awaited film No Time To Die released on a streaming service instead of having a theatrical release. The twenty-fifth entry in the James Bond franchise directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga was one of the first movies to be delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the film was pushed back yet another time to April 2, 2021, MGM Studios tried selling it to different companies in order to have it premiere on a streaming service.
After the 2020 live action remake of Mulan was released to Disney+ and Pixar’s Soul following in its footsteps, it seemed like MGM Studios could have the same degree of success with getting its movie onto a streaming service as opposed to having a box office flop if it was released to half-full theaters. Unfortunately for MGM Studios, no streaming services have shown interest in buying No Time To Die as of yet. This is mainly due to the fact that MGM Studios would not sell the movie for less than $600 million.
On October 26, executives at MGM Studios announced that they would no longer try to sell No Time to Die and instead aim to have the film released on April 2, 2021.
No Time To Die will be released on April 2, 2021 and star Daniel Craig as James Bond for the fifth and final time in his career.
