Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera, 43, is believed to be one of the victims of a small plane crash in an aircraft that took off from Monterrey, Mexico, and was bound for Toluca, just outside of Mexico City, on Sunday. The plane quickly lost contact with air traffic controllers before its wreckage was found in the northern state of Nuevo Leon.
"Everything points to that this is the plane, said Ruiz Esparza, Minister of Communication and Transportation, reports CNN. Rivera was believed to be on board, along with six others, including two pilots. "The aircraft was destroyed, totally fragmented," added director general of Civil Aviation Alejandro Argudin.
Rivera, the mother of five children, released her debut album in 1999 and produced the Telemundo Mun2 reality show, Chiquis & Raq-C. She also appeared in the spinoff series, I Love Jenni, and served as a judge on La Voz, Mexico, based upon the The Voice.
"My heart is devastated," wrote fellow La Voz, Mexico judge Beto Cuevas. "All my prayers are with you, Jenni, and your family."
