James Hetfield, the frontman of the iconic rock band, has revealed that he doesn’t think Metallica will ever perform for the Super Bowl Halftime show.
“I feel like the ship has passed,” Hetfield said before a sound check last Friday. He went on to explain, “We’re not a variety show. We’re not pop. We’re not sparkly, and all that kind of stuff seems to be what’s needed for that.”
However, the band will be playing The Night Before concert on Saturday at AT&T Park where the devoted fan base can enjoy Metallica whilst take part in the Super Bowl festivities.
“Having the city come alive with any kind of sport is great. The fact that we’re here getting to represent Bay area music at The Night Before is pretty exciting.” Hetfield added.
This year Coldplay holds the venerated Super Bowl Halftime spot with Beyonce. Metallica’s pre-show concert will stream for free online.
