Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert is dropping her bid for a Congressional seat in Michigan due to health issues.
The former president of the Screen Actors Guild suffered from injuries to her head and neck from accidents in 2012 and have worsened, according to a statement Gilbert released to the Detroit Free Press.
“While I have received the best treatment and therapy I could have asked for, those injuries have only gotten worse,” Gilbert said. “As much as it breaks my heart to say this, my doctors have told me I am physically unable to continue my run for Congress.”
While performing on Dancing With The Stars in 2012, she suffered from whiplash which led to a concussion. A couple of months later, a balcony from a home in Studio City, California, that she was renting out ended up collapsing on her head.
Gilbert is experiencing numbness in her right hand, shooting pain in her right arm, and numbness in her neck. The 52-year-old’s name will be taken off Michigan’s primary ballot on August 2, 2016.
